Picked out a pediatrician

Kevin and I interviewed our first pediatrician yesterday and we really liked him so we decided to cancel today's interview and just go with the first doctor. His name is Dr. Neil Kirschner and he practices at Children's Clinic East here in Hermitage, TN. We both really liked his demeanor and the way he answered our questions. He also made us feel very comfortable about being first time parents and told us that part of his job is to make sure we don't worry so much about all the new things we will be experiencing about the baby. The clinic itself was very clean, had a very large waiting room divided into sections for well and sick children. They also had a separate allergy waiting area and a nursing mother's room as well. All of the nurses were very friendly to us as we were walking back to meet with the doctor and we felt very welcome there. I think we made a good choice!

I have my next doctor's appt on 6/2. After that I start going every week. Based on my bathroom scale, it looks like I've tapered off on gaining weight each week which is good--I feel so big right now and it's getting really uncomfortable for me sit in my office chair for extended periods of time. My ankles are starting to swell a lot as well so I have to keep remembering to drink lots of water. This is hard, though, because the baby has started to drop and that means more pressure on my bladder--UGH! I'm not sleeping well these days and it's hard to move around in bed. I think sleeping in the recliner sometimes is beginning to appear in my future. I will post a 35 week picture of me here later tonight.

Everything is still going well!

Had my 34 week appointment yesterday and all is still well. I've gained another 3 pounds--it seems I'm gaining lots of weight these days as I get into the home stretch! I will have Kevin take another picture for you all to see. The baby still kicks a lot and his kicks are getting more painful as he runs out of room to move around in there. It's not unusual for me to be in the middle of running a meeting here at work and then have to grab my side to get him to stop kicking so much. I have started having Braxton Hicks contractions which just feel slightly uncomfortable. My body is definitely starting to feel the affects of carrying the additional weight as I'm having aches and pains in places that I didn't know were possible. I'm also having lots of leg cramps at night which is making sleeping even more difficult. We have the baby's room pretty much all set up--that is the crib is put together as is our hand me down changing table, the clothes are washed and put away. Now I just need to get my hospital bag packed--Kevin keeps reminding me of this since I know he doesn't want to run home to pick stuff up for me once I've delivered!

5-5 Doctor's Appt Update

Happily I have nothing to report! I have now gained a total of 19 lbs. Baby's heartbeat is still strong and everything is going well. Have my next appt in 2 weeks.

On another note, Kevin bought a robot vacuum cleaner 2 days ago. It's called a Roomba and it works pretty well. We were surprised but it really helps keep the house free of dog fur with little effort on our part. Should come in handy helping keep the floors clean once the baby comes too!
